How to Choose the Right Boxing Glove Size

Choosing the right glove size isn't just about comfort — it affects your training safety and performance. Here's what to consider.

Match Gloves to Your Body Weight

Lighter fighters generally need less padding, while heavier fighters need more protection for both their hands and their sparring partners. As a general rule: under 60kg suits 8–10oz gloves, 60–75kg suits 12oz, 75–90kg suits 14–16oz, and above 90kg calls for 16oz or heavier.

Consider Your Training Type

Bag work often calls for slightly heavier gloves than sparring, since the extra padding protects your hands during repeated impact. If you split your time between bag work and sparring, sizing up by 2oz for bag sessions is a common approach.
